Gingerbread Men

It’s been a long time since I’ve written here, but much has happened.  Sheridon turned 2, I turned 27, Ken turned 33… who knew that time passed by so quickly.  It seems like I was just 17 yesterday – but here I am, 10 years older.  As quickly as these past 10 years have gone for me, I think that Sheridon’s first 2 & 1/2 have flown by at a near time-warp speed.  When you are little, and people tell you that you ‘grow up so fast’, you really don’t believe them.  Time seems to inch by, ever-so-slowly.  Summer, of course, seems to fly by, but the rest of time seems to pass at a snails pace.  For me, it was not until Sheridon came along that I realized just how fast children grow up.  The truth hits you in the face like a hammer.

It seems just like yesterday that Aunt Becky gave Sheridon a Christmas book about Elmo making Christmas cookies.  She wrote an inscription about how one day, Sheridon would be making gingerbread men with her “Mom Mom” (who has since become “Maymie”) and today was that day.

When we were getting ready to go to Maymie & Papa’s house today, we asked Sheridon if she knew what she’d be doing.  “Making gingerbread men!” she replied enthusiastically.

As soon as we got to their house, she was raring to go, but first Maymie and she made some aprons together.  The aprons were really cute and Sheridon insisted upon wearing hers whenever she was working in the kitchen.  After the aprons were done, they read the ‘gingerbread man’ book.

After the book, they went to work on the gingerbread men.  Thankfully, none of theirs got up and ran away.   Sheridon helped Maymie add all of the ingredients, one by one and even rolled out the dough.  They both dutifully worked away.  Sheridon made sure that the raisin buttons and eyes were well in place, by mashing them in with the delicate roughness that only a 2 year old could muster.  She made two of the prettiest gingerbread men that I’ve ever seen (through the eyes of a mother, that is.)  After they were baked to the perfect temperature, Sheridon carefully and proudly carried them downstairs to show Dada & Papa what she and Maymie had accomplished.

They seemed to taste just as wonderful as they looked (maybe even a little bit more wonderful than they looked ;) They were not as lucky as the gingerbread man in the story, because they were quickly gobbled up by Papa & Dada.  Sheridon did get a few little pieces ;)

Sheridon would have rolled and cut and baked all day, were it not for a necessary nap-time.

Sheridon had so much fun today and it was just as fun watching her enjoy making the gingerbread men.  You could see and hear just how proud of herself she was.  There was only one person that had more fun than Sheridon…. Maymie.

It does bring back memories I can recall just like it was yesterday when Villis, Sheldon and Eason would help mama make her pound cake. They did love breaking the eggs put most of all it was the rare cake dough that the really wonted. Where did the time go. You to will look back one day and wonder why did it go so fast. Sheridon has gotten so big since this summer. Merry Christmas to you Ken and Sheridon we miss you. Lots of love from home.

Hey Blonnie…or should I call you Zayn? ;) My, times certainly have changed. Not sure if you remember me from our online gaming days, but I decided to look you up and was glad to see you seem to have found your way in life. Married and everything! Let me offer belated congratulations. And a mother too, who would have guessed! ;)

Incidentally, I am married to “Ihsahn” from the nightmare LPMud, I am sure you remember him.

    Anyway, keep in touch.
